The Big Questions our Research will Answer

The Deb Bailey Research Centre has a real opportunity to make a difference as the researchers are able to concentrate on innovative, ground breaking long term research.

Question 1:  What is the contribution of inflammation in MND?

• What environmental factors may trigger or accelerate MND?

• What internal factors trigger or exacerbate inflammation in MND?

Question 2:  What are the genetic causes of MND?

Question 3:  How does abnormal cell-to- cell communication drive MND?

Question 4:  What goes wrong in motor neurons to cause MND?

• How do problems in DNA cause MND? How do protein abnormalities cause MND?

• What is unique about motor neurons (and not other neurons) that causes MND?

The Deb Bailey Research Centre has a real opportunity to make a difference as the researchers are able to concentrate on innovative, ground breaking long term research.

How will we Answer these Big Questions?

The Deb Bailey Research Centre will go about answering these questions by:

• Directly involving MND patients in our research by synergistically partnering clinicians with laboratory researchers.

• Bringing together excellent researchers to add to the expertise at Macquarie University.

• Building a world’s best practice collaborative environment to facilitate success.
